I don’t really believe in anything
Not in one God, not in two or three
I wonder if I’m missing out on something
I wonder what I’m supposed to be
I don’t know what else there is
I don’t think we’re alone out here
An afterlife that we share?
Reincarnation? Or do we disappear?
Is there a being of reason,
Watching over us day and night?
A being that stands for good
A god who understands my plight
Or do we face spiteful overlords?
Creatures of pain and misery,
Beings that ignore our strife
Gods that have us at their mercy.
Do our good and bad deeds matter?
Is there anyone who cares?
Must we maintain karmatic balance?
Does it matter if we put on airs?
Others seem so sure in their beliefs.
They never seem to waver.
They live their lives in certainty,
That their faith will win favor.
If we’re not alone in this life
I can only hope for compassion
Something that understands me
And forgives my lack of passion.
